Hello and welcome to your new holiday home! I am sure you will enjoy it.
The nicest thing to do when in Sardinia
is to go for a swim. Your options (in order of proximity to your front door) are: · Go to the pool; please observe all
safety regulations, ask the custodian of the village (a gentleman whose name, description and contact numbers I can give
you upon application and with his prior consent) or the neighbours for information if needed · Go to the pebbles
beach just beyond the pool (beware of sea-urchins) · Go to the docks (my favourite. Exit the main gate to the parking,
cross the street, and follow the path down the stairs to the docks). A ladder is provided in the house. Please make sure you
don’t leave it at the docks, always bring it back home and rinse it or it may get stolen. · Go to the sandy beach
of Villaggio Piras (out of Sporting House, go left as if to exit from Villaggio Piras, then take the first turn to the left
to Cala Grande) · See any of the other beaches in La Maddalena (Spalmatore is within walking distance, Monti d’Arena,
and Baia Trinita can be reached by car) or Caprera (il Relitto, or Cala Coticcio a.k.a. Tahiti, my favourite. Look it up on
the map, it is quite a hike or boat ride) or mainland Sardinia (too many beaches and places to mention), where you can also
find old villages, caves and archaeological sites of spectacular beauty. Just get a map and explore. · In La Maddalena
village you can book one of several boat rides to the breathtakingly beautiful islands or charter a boat. There are many suppliers
so shop around or ask the neighbours for information. Keep your eyes and sonar alert for rocks just below the surface or be
joined by someone who knows the area. Check the maps for areas that are natural park (closed to private boats). Authorities
are often lax but you never know.
